Trends We're Diggin' in 2020
It’s safe to say 2020 has been filled with a lot of not-so-pretty turns of events… here’s looking at you covid, a long-overdue look at racial inequality and police brutality, families now home-schooling their kids and working full-time at home, and some brutal fires in California, to name a few! It has been a tough one, and while we keep having to surrender to this reality we can also continue to remain positive, spread light, and focus on the beauty in the world - cause there sure is a lot of that, too!
This week on the blog we’re doing just that and highlighting some beauty and trends we’ve been spotting this year. We’ve been fortunate enough to continue working on projects this year, and feel SO inspired by those continuing to create, innovate, and put out some beautiful spaces as always. Let’s dive right in!
Scalloped Cut-outs for Lighting
Oh hello beautiful!!! From bathrooms, kitchens, to commercial spaces we are LOVING the different ways of creating scallops in materials used to create this half-circle cut-out for wall sconces. It’s details like this that differentiate a space from what we see time and time again, and elevate the overall vibe.
2. Drywall/ Plaster Alcove Shelving
This trend isn’t necessarily a new one, and we see this done across a range of design styles, but this is something we’ve been seeing a ton of this year and we’re here for it. Creating these natural alcoves/ shelves eliminates use of another material, frees up any depth if floating shelves or a bookcase were to be set against the wall, and makes a room feel so spacious.
3. Color-Blocked Cabinetry
Again, not anything new as we see this in original mid-century and other styles of homes - but I keep seeing this being designed in a more modern way and love the mix of natural woods and color. You can (almost) never go wrong in my eyes with neutrals, whites, and natural wood cabinetry and I just LOVE the outcome of this combination. Be prepared to see this in my own house sometime soon… :)
4. Arched Mirrors
Last but not least, arched mirrors. Such a subtle way to switch things up from your typical rectangular or round mirror. Rounded edges naturally help bring in some softness and femininity to a space and in my opinion these will be a timeless piece we’ll continue to see around.
