Project Reveal: Neptune Ave. Residence

Hello & happy Sunday folks!

I’m excited to share some nitty gritty details on our Neptune Ave. project., nestled on my favorite street EVER in Leucadia - or let’s be real, probably all of San Diego. Steps away from the best little coffee shops, Beacon’s beach or Grandview, and just 5 minutes from Encinitas. Need I say more?

This client came to me towards the end of last year, already deep in the remodel process with the house fully gutted. They already had their floor plan figured out and pulled me in to help select all finishes and materials throughout the house, provide some technical elevation drawings for the bathrooms and kitchen, and some other final details needed throughout the space. They had a pretty clear vision of what they wanted - more on the modern/ contemporary side, although they found themselves drawn to mid-century modern elements and materials with some warmth. We worked to create a space full of timeless and simple materials with some unique elements of interest and contrast. Let’s take a look!

KITCHEN

White glossy slab cabinets, quartz continuously used throughout the countertops and backsplash, and a warm wood pantry for the win. This client pretty much knew they wanted white slab cabinets but didn’t want it to feel too cold in the kitchen, so we added warmth through the wood on the full pantry wall, a natural woven element above the sink, and a vintage rug (of course!) While the sink in the corner isn’t very typical, it was important to this client to have dishes far far away from their open concept space leading out to the dining and living area. Storage was on the tighter side in this home so we decided to run the upper cabinets all the way up to the ceiling here, so while it is ‘a look’ it’s also super functional in this case.

POWDER BATH

This might be my favorite little bathroom ever. It’s SO simple, yet such a statement. Again the client wanted to keep things simple, but still add a little ‘wow factor’ as it is the bathroom that most guests see. We went with a glossy, marble herringbone tile on the vanity wall only, mixed metals, and some super simple style. This bathroom mirror of my dreams was from Anthropologie and both the client & I knew this was the winner once presented as one of a couple options for the powder bath mirror. Most plumbing throughout the house is black and polished chrome so I wanted to switch it up in here by mixing in some brass metals with the black sink faucet. Little cutie arrangement was made by my dear friend and former client, Wildflower San Diego.

TWEEN BATHS

This teenage girls bath was meant to really be cohesive with the rest of the home, with some details honing in on a fun, and feminine bathroom. We stuck to light and bright materials - a 12x24 porcelain wall tile, light grey hex flooring, and a coordinating penny tile (not pictured) on the shower floor. We went with matte black plumbing and fixtures for this girls bath to give the space a little edge against a primarily bright palette.

Now for the teenage dudes bath! With this one going off to college soon, we wanted the space to be both masculine and also suitable for any guest in the future when this becomes the primary bath for guests staying upstairs. We went with a small, glossy black hex throughout the bath, a warmer wood vanity with black edge pulls, and a light grey 12x24 tile on the shower walls.

MASTER BATH

This master bath was a fun one - and definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone slightly as it leaned very modern, as did the rest of the project. I’ve always LOVED and been so inspired with modern design, but it really takes a client to want that look to be able to go for it. Fun fact: we actually had some issues with the coordinating shower pan tile to the main floor very much NOT coordinating… so we had to switch things up last minute and landed on this black pebble tile that matched the main floor tile PERFECTLY. This dream of a client was inspired by nature and this tile instantly connected with her. The wet room was really created to feel like an oasis, spa-like, even. To add my own little touch, we tiled the entire dual-vanity wall with a beautiful matte-marble penny tile.
